A friend loaned me this book since I had read the Fifty Shades of Grey series. It was pretty similar, but with two main differences:
1. The female lead wasn't nearly as juvenile as in the Fifty Shades books.
2. The writing style of the author was much more polished, seasoned, and overall easier to read.
Eva is a successful, headstrong young girl who happens to fall for an extremely successful, extremely wealthy young businessman, Gideon. They just so happen to work in the same building (that Gideon happens to own.)
They both have demons that haunt them from their past, which can make the relationship between them very tense at times. Gideon is fairly controlling and possessive. Eva tends to run when he gets that way. Her mother is on the controlling side, and that creates a lot of tension between Eva and Gideon. (Not because of her mother, but because of how Eva handles it.)
The other characters in the book make it more interesting, and aren't just there for "show" and to try and add to the plot when necessary. They actually are well-developed non-lead characters. Cary (the bisexual roommate/best-friend) and Mark (Eva's boss) and Steve (Mark's partner) all were good characters that I enjoyed reading of Eva's interactions with.
The only problem with the book is that I didn't realize it was a series. Book 2 comes out tomorrow, and Book 3 doesn't come out until the end of May 2013 (or Dec 2012, there is conflicting information). I generally like to wait until a series is complete to start reading it. Either way, good book, though.
